Verivolt Partners with UT-CEM to Deploy Intelligent Powerline Sensors for Grid Reliability

UT-CEM demonstration of an intelligent powerline sensor developed with Verivolt for grid reliability

Verivolt is proud to announce its contribution to the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Electromechanics (UT-CEM) in deploying an innovative, intelligent powerline sensor designed to enhance grid reliability and resilience.

Last week, UT-CEM hosted an industry day to introduce the new technology, marking the culmination of a successful six-month grid demonstration with a local electric cooperative.

Key Capabilities of the Intelligent Sensor

Fault Anticipation

The powerline-mounted sensor detects vegetation interactions to anticipate and prevent faults before they cause outages.

Real Time Data

Equipped with a built-in computer, the sensor delivers real-time operational information for rapid fault mitigation.

Preventative Maintenance

Equipped with a built-in computer, the sensor delivers real-time operational information for rapid fault mitigation.

A Collaborative Effort

The sensor was developed, tested, and deployed by a robust industry and government coalition, including:

  • UT-Center for Electromechanics (UT-CEM)

  • Verivolt

  • U.S. Department of Energy (Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy)

  • Wood County Electric Cooperative

  • Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative

  • Capstan Technologies, Inc.

This milestone represents a significant step forward in leveraging smart grid technology to secure and stabilize distribution infrastructure.
